What makes Miles Academy different?

At Miles Academy, we don’t just teach English —
we teach Academic English.

This means students learn how to:
✅ Express ideas clearly in English
✅ Discuss opinions and engage in deeper thinking
✅ Write structured reports and essays
✅ Read and analyze original texts, books, and articles

Students aren’t just memorizing vocabulary or grammar.
They are learning how to use English to access knowledge,
to think critically, and to communicate with confidence in any academic setting.

Why has my child’s English level stayed the same despite years of tutoring?

In Taiwan, most English learning focuses on grammar rules, phonics, sentence construction, and daily conversation.
While this builds a foundation, it often falls short when students enter an international academic environment, where higher-level English skills are required.

How do I know if my child is keeping up with the level of U.S. elementary schools?

Miles Academy conducts the IOWA Test annually.
This is a standardized test widely used by private schools in the U.S. and American international schools around the world.

It assesses students’ performance in:
🔹 English
🔹 Math
🔹 Science
🔹 Social Studies

The test is grade-level appropriate and designed to understand a student’s academic progress — not to stress or overwhelm them.

We provide:
✔️ A detailed score report
✔️ A consultation to explain the results

This helps parents clearly see where their child is performing well and which areas may need improvement.

My child is currently in the IBMYP programme. How can I help them choose the right IBDP subjects?

When selecting IBDP subjects, your child’s IBMYP grades are a useful reference for determining their strengths and readiness.
• MYP scores of 6 or above (out of 8):
This indicates strong academic ability in that subject and suggests it can be taken as a Higher Level (HL) subject in the IBDP.

Choosing subjects this way helps students:
✔️ Build on their strengths
✔️ Maintain steady performance
✔️ Stay motivated and balanced throughout the IBDP journey

Can I apply to a UK university with my Taiwan GSAT results?

YES! you can.
Students in Taiwan can apply to certain UK universities based in overseas using the GSAT (學測) scores, along with an IELTS score of 5.0 or above as proof of English proficiency.

Entry requirements vary by university and course, so we recommend evaluating options individually based on your academic background and interests.

For detailed application procedures and suitable university choices, feel free to contact us. We offer personalized guidance and professional support.

I’m not sure if my child is suited for a UK boarding school. Is there a good way to find out?

This is one of the most common concerns for parents considering overseas education for their child.

To help families better understand boarding life in the UK, Miles Academy partners with well-known UK boarding schools every summer to offer a two-week summer camp experience.

During this programme, students will:
• Stay on an actual UK boarding school campus
• Join local activities and school life
• Learn and live alongside students from around the world
• Study the Cambridge English curriculum

This experience allows children to adapt early to the boarding school environment and get a taste of academic life through the Cambridge programme.
At the same time, parents can observe whether their child is suited for future studies in the UK and make a more confident, well-informed decision.
